Tennis Tuesdays

What is Tennis Tuesdays?

Launched in 2014, Tennis Tuesdays, in partnership with Nike, offers women the chance to improve their game, with a mixture of skills training and match play. Led by an LTA qualified coach, each week's session focuses on a different area of the game and is tactically themed.

Tennis Tuesdays is perfect for women leading busy lives who are looking for a spot of social, active fun with likeminded ladies. It is great for intermediate female players in their twenties and thirties looking to get back into the game.

As a coach/venue, what requirements should we meet to run Tennis Tuesdays sessions?

Coaches and venues would need to meet the following criteria:

  • Venue open to non-members on a pay and play basis
  • Court availability on a Tuesday evening (ideally 7pm) for a minimum of a 10 week period between May and October
  • Minimum Level 2 accredited coach, who has attended the LTA’s Adult CPD course (coming later in 2017) or Tennis Tuesdays training
  • Existing coaching team and programme in place at your venue
  • Follow session plans, including themes and structure
  • Minimum of 2 courts in a safe environment, with nearby toilets
  • Sessions uploaded via ClubSpark
  • Session figures reported weekly via ClubSpark
  • Quality rackets and low compression balls (Green) available for players to loan
  • Promotional materials clearly displayed at the venue and promoted locally

Who can deliver Tennis Tuesdays sessions?

Tennis Tuesdays can be delivered by LTA Level 2 accredited coaches (and above). Prior to starting delivery you will need to have attended the LTA’s Adult CPD course (coming later in 2017) or Tennis Tuesdays training, and spoken to your local LTA Regional Team who will support you to get started.

How can a venue deliver Tennis Tuesdays sessions?

It is important for a venue to self-assess whether they have a need for the programme to run, e.g. there may be a gap with women in their twenties or thirties playing at that venue, and/or be in local reach of the ideal demographic.

How do I become a Tennis Tuesdays coach?

Tennis Tuesdays can be delivered by LTA Level 2 accredited coaches (and above). Prior to starting delivery you will need to have attended the LTA’s Adult CPD course (coming later in 2017) or Tennis Tuesdays training and spoken to your local LTA Regional Team who will support you to get started.

Expression of interest for 2017 was open in December 2016 to January 2017. This was through email communication sent directly to Head Coaches, Club Main Contacts and contacts at community-based venues that may not have a Club Main Contact in place. It has now closed for the year but if you are keen to get involved, please contact your local LTA Regional Team.  Please note that the application can come from the Club Main Contact or Coach.

f you are successfully chosen as a Tennis Tuesdays venue, your coach will be invited to CPD training. You must attend training in order to run the sessions. Please note that the training is only open to venues that have applied.

If you delivered Tennis Tuesdays in 2016 or previously, you will still need to attend 2017 training. All coaches have to attend training regardless of whether they have delivered previously. We have lots of exciting new content to share with coaches including new session drills and three brand new session themes. We also have updates for coaches on Nike customer rewards and practical ideas about promoting your venue.

Can I deliver Tennis Tuesdays sessions at other points in the year?

Of course! Most venues run Tennis Tuesdays between May and October, but many are increasingly continuing throughout the year due to popular demand. We recommend starting your session in the summer months to ensure you attract the right audience. All coaches that deliver Tennis Tuesdays will need to attend the training.

I am interested in delivering Tennis Tuesdays but it is midway through summer – is this possible?

We would strongly encourage venues to run Tennis Tuesdays from the start of the summer season to ensure they can attract players whilst awareness of tennis in Britain is at its peak! If it’s midway through summer but you feel there would be plenty of scope to deliver sessions, it would be best to contact your local LTA Regional Team.

Tuesdays aren’t good for me – can I run Tennis Tuesdays on any day of the week?

Unfortunately not! We’ve listened to what the customer wants and designed the programme accordingly. There is nothing stopping venues from running female-only sessions on other days but these cannot be labelled Tennis Tuesdays.

Can a venue run more than one Tennis Tuesdays session in one night?

If your sessions prove popular and you were keen to run additional courses, it may be an option to run two sessions in one evening, e.g. 6.30-7.30pm and 7.30-8.30pm.

Can I run Tennis Tuesdays sessions at more than one venue?

If you wish to run more than one Tennis Tuesdays course, you will need to detail your main venue address and a member of your regional team will be in touch with additional information. Coaches need to run consistent sessions at their chosen venue throughout the summer. If a venue has more than one coach who has attended training, they will be able to run additional sessions.

What support is available to Tennis Tuesdays coaches?

Once you have attended training, you will be equipped with both yellow and green balls, Babolat adult rackets, lesson plans, a central campaign website and posters & flyers for local promotion. Please note that the equipment will be delivered to the venue following training.

If you are interested in running the programme or are an existing Tennis Tuesdays coach, you can contact your local LTA Regional Team for any support.

How do I upload my Tennis Tuesdays sessions to ClubSpark?

Coaches will be asked for the ClubSpark account number (for a venue or coaching organisation) when they register their initial interest and we will grant access to everyone who has been successful in their expression of interest. For more information about uploading your sessions to ClubSpark, please click here.

Once a coach has attended training, they will have access to a Tennis Tuesdays programme within the Coaching module.

As a coach/venue, how do I promote my Tennis Tuesdays sessions?

Tennis Tuesdays is supported by a national campaign website, where you can promote your venue via ClubSpark and players can find their local session, book and pay online. My Tennis Toolkit provides a range of promotional materials from posters to digital branded banners.
