Do mid-season changes to my opponents' ratings affect me?

Yes they can do, for example:

  • If you have beaten a player rated one level below you and their rating goes up in the mid-season ratings run then this will count as a qualifying win in the end-of-season ratings run.

This is because ratings adjustments are made according to players' ratings as they stand when the calculation actually takes place. For example:

  • If you're a 7.1 player and you beat a 7.2 who moves to a 7.1 in the mid-season ratings run, this will be a qualifying win in the end-of-season run.

However, if you have lost to a player of the same rating and your rating increases in the mid-season run, that loss will count as a qualifying loss in the end-of-season run.  For example:

  • If you're a 6.2 player and you lose to a 6.2 that will not count as a qualifying loss in the mid-season run.

But if your rating increases in the mid-season run - and your opponent's doesn't - that loss will become a qualifying loss in the end-of-season run.
