What are the requirements to book onto an LTA Coaching Qualification?

You will need to have all of the required pre-requisites in place before booking onto a course, see below: 

Qualification

Qualification pre-requisites

Level 1 - Coaching Assistant  

  • Be a minimum of 16 on the first day of the course
  • Have a signed letter of deployment from the club where coaching experience will be undertaken or request a letter of deployment from the course provider
  • Organised mentored coaching experience before the course starts

Level 2 – Coaching Assistant  

  • Hold the Level 1 qualification, Tennis Assistants Qualification, a 1st4sport Level 2 certificate in coaching another sport with UKCC endorsement, or a teaching qualification specialising in PE
  • Hold an accepted DBS processed through the LTA within the last 12 months or via the update service
  • Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
  • Organised mentored coaching experience before the course starts

Level 3 - Coach

  • Hold the Level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • Be LTA Accredited or hold an accepted DBS processed through the LTA within the last 12 months or via the update service
  • Have (or have had) a rating of 6.1 or a play test grade 1
  • Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

Level 4 - Senior Club Coach

  • Hold either the Coach qualification, Club Coach qualification, Performance Coach qualification, DCA or a non-LTA qualification awarded with the NVQ Level 2 in coaching, teaching and instructing tennis
  • Be an LTA Accredited+ Coach
  • Have (or have had) a rating of 5.1 or below, or hold a play test grade 2
  • Coaching experience as agreed with the course tutors

Level 4 - Senior Performance Coach

  • Hold either the Coach qualification, Club Coach qualification, Performance Coach qualification, DCA or a non-LTA qualification awarded with the NVQ Level 2 in coaching, teaching and instructing tennis
  • Be an LTA Accredited+ Coach
  • Have (or have had) a rating of 4.1 or below, or hold play test grade 3
  • Be working with a player between the ages of 10-14 years who is at junior national level

Level 5 - Master Club Coach

  • Hold either the LTA SCC qualification or CCA
  • Have (or have had) a rating of 5.1 or below, or hold a play test grade 2
  • Have knowledge and experience of recent terminology and methodology on LTA coach education qualifications (coaches who hold the senior club coach qualification will not have to give further evidence in this area)
  • Currently or within the last three years held the position of Head Coach

Level 5 - Master Performance Coach

  • Hold the SPC or equivalent coaching qualification
  • Be an LTA Accredited+ Coach
  • Have a minimum rating of 4.1 or below, or hold a play test grade 3
  • Currently be working with or have a proven track record with players in one or more of the following categories:

-       Main draw category 1 Tennis Europe players

-       Coach to a senior full-time player at Futures level

-       Senior academy programme

-       Be in a current and regular coaching role that allows them to practice and implement master performance coach between regroupings with appropriate age and level players

  • Have a level of play which allows them to live feed and create realistic and relevant open game situations with top 10 U18 male/female players
